I'm Sofia Syed
As an employment lawyer with over a decade of expertise, I have dedicated my career to the nuanced world of private staffing. I have advised Chiefs of Staff, Family Office professionals, House Managers, and Executive Assistants, all of whom I've supported in navigating the ever-changing landscape of employment law as it uniquely applies within private households.
I have also advised principals directly, guiding them in carefully balancing their crucial privacy needs at home with the employment rights of their staff. Frequently, this includes managing complex, high-stakes litigation when employment relationships sour, post-termination.
Throughout my experience as a trusted adviser, I’ve consistently observed that private staffing managers often shy away from formal legal advice during the early stages of employment relationships, choosing instead to manage early situations without adequate training or support. Understandably, this knowledge and resource gap causes the managers undue stress and overwhelm as they attempt to secure comprehensive answers. Recognising this gap, I am committed to making my expertise more accessible at every level. I will always be at hand to provide legal 1-2-1 advice for complex matters.
My courses are tailored to empower managers with practical, actionable strategies, comprehensive resources, and up-to-date templates—ensuring they confidently undertake their role whilst significantly mitigating risk for their principals. To further support this mission, I established the Hanover Community, offering managers on-demand guidance and a supportive peer network.
